After several calls for President Akufo-Addo to state his position on the issue of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex (LGBTQI), he has finally spoken on the matter.
The President says as far as he was concerned, Ghana will never legalize same-sex marriage.
“I have said it before, and let me stress it again, that it will not be under the Presidency of Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo that same-sex marriage will be legal,” he said today, Saturday, February 27, 2021.
He made the comments at the installation of the 2nd Archbishop of the Anglican Church held in Asante Mampong.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference and other religious bodies called on the President to state his position on the matter.
This follows the opening of an LGBTQI office in Accra some few weeks ago.
The police together with the landlord on February 24 stormed and locked the LGBTQ office at Ashongman in Accra.
The group has also revealed their lives were currently under threat as some persons have threatened to burn them alive.
