Greater Accra Regional Minister-designate Henry Quartey says the idea to relocate the capital city from Accra is a great idea but involves a lot.
Some advocates have consistently called for the capital city to be relocated since it will help to ease pressure on lands and commercial activities in Accra.
According to critics, moving the capital from Accra will be the best way to rid the city of its filth and make it more eco-friendly.
Appearing before the Vetting Committee on Monday, March 1, 2021, the nominee noted that the advocacy has since existed since the late Kutu Acheampong till date.
Nii Lante Vanderpuye, the MP Odododiodoo asked if he would support the advocacy to have the traditional capital of the Greater Accra Region separated from the national capital.
Mr. Henry Lartey said he would support the advocacy and would seek support from Parliament to pursue this agenda.
He said the idea would come with some financial obligations, but he was ready to begin the process if given the nod.
On what he will do to resolve political violence in the region, he said political violence is a national crisis and should be seen as such.
He called for political tolerance among supporters of the various political parties.
