The Leadership and Members of Mobile Money Advocacy Group ( MOMAG), has described the use of identification cards for mobile money services as commendable.
According to them, the move will protect their members from fraudsters.
”We see the move expected to commence on 2nd April 2021 as a protective measure for our members who have suffered in the hands of fraudsters.
”In some occasions, our members are wrongfully arrested and molested as a result of issues bothering on identification among others.
As key stakeholders in the Mobile Money Business who have made Mobile Money Limited a big part of the financial sector, we expect that they treat us with fairness and not introduce directives that will collapse our business es which eventually add onto the already huge unemployment situation in the country.”
MTN MoMo has announced that effective April 2, all MoMo customers will be required to present valid ID cards before any MoMo cash-out (withdrawal) transaction can be processed.
Per the directive, all MoMo agents will be required to select the ID type and enter the ID card number presented by the customer before the transaction can be completed.
MOMAG commenting said although it has commended MTN, it will demand transparency in the service.
