A political science lecturer at the Methodist University Dr. Osei Bonsu, says the closeness of Kissi Agyebeng to the controversial Agyapa deal cannot be against his nomination for the Special Prosecutor position.
He opined that lawyers have to represent the interests of their clients, but that does not mean lawyers who are hired have their conscience bought.
He said the lawyer was only working and as a private legal practitioner, he works for clients who come for their services.
Anti-graft campaigner Bright Simons is admonishing Special Prosecutor nominee Kissi Agyebeng to commit to recusing himself from all matters relating to the Agyapa mineral royalties deal if he secures the job.
“Mr. Agyebeng is a fine lawyer. But if he wants to be SP as reported then he must COMMIT to recuse himself from ALL Agyapa matters. Given his close links to White & Case & ALA (run by Agyapa supporter, Mr. Okyere-Darko) else CSOs will oppose his appointment,” Mr Simons wrote on Twitter Monday.
But Dr, Bonsu says the nominee has done no wrong in the services he rendered a private firm in a matter.
Meanwhile, he has advised him not to pursue the path of former Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu.
He said Mr. Amidu went on a political agenda but failed to woirk.
He said the nominee should put all his political ideologies behind him and pursue a Ghana first agenda.
