A section of the Ghanaian public has expressed their displeasure at the decision by authorities to burn excavators seized from illegal miners.
Those who spoke to Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm said that the excavators could be used to dredge or desilt our water bodies engulfed in filth.
It was their opinion that the various assemblies could also be given the excavators to use for other construction works instead of the current decision.
The majority of those who spoke added that the decision is not a smart on and those in charge could rescind the decision to burn the excavators.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), Dr. Kwaku Afriyie has stated that the government will do what it pleases with seized galamsey equipment.
He emphasised that the government will continue to burn excavators being used for illegal mining when soldiers seize them.
According to him, burning the machines is the best alternative to fighting illegal mining rather than seizing and keeping them.
