The spokesperson for the Minority on Foreign Affairs Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has opined that the deal by the government to purchase Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine is another avenue for chop-chop.
According to him, just as the government used ”Frontiers Healthcare Services robbery, the Akufo-Addo Administration is increasingly confirming beyond doubt that fighting COVID-19 is simply CHOP TIME”.
The MP for North Tongu noted that he does not understand why the government of Ghana used middlemen for the purchase of the vaccine when it could have purchased it directly.
”How can the Ghanaian government under this extremely favourable climate of vaccine diplomacy claim that it is unable to deal directly with these governments hence has to rely on middlemen with alarmingly dubious credentials? How do we even trust the safety and efficacy of the vaccines from this suspicious cabal of darkness?”

Reading the 25-page communique from the G-7 Summit, it is unmistakable that vaccine diplomacy is the new focus of the world’s leading nations. They are pledging to donate some 870 million doses DIRECTLY over the next year (that will amount to 2 billion doses since vaccines were certified).
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin also told the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that Russia was open to other Governments as they hope to use Sputnik V to project soft power. President Putin further announced that from July, Russia will launch “vaccine tourism,” where foreign citizens can visit the country to get a free Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine.
