A political activist, Mr. Abankwa Kesse has expressed relief at the assurance given by the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin that the House was considering legislation that will criminalize activities of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex + (LGBTQI+) in Ghana.
The activist said the assurance by the Speaker is commendable and will end the debate on LGBTQI+ activities.
Mr. Kesse had written to the Speaker asking the House to consider legislation to ban all forms of LGBTQI+ activities.
He argued that such activities were evil, illegal, and a threat to family life, our cultural, religious, and social values.
He had also asked leaders in the country to damn all consequences from our foreign donors and put a stop to these activities.
The Speaker in a response to his letter assured him that Parliament will work on such a law.
“Urgent actions are being taken to pass a law to eventually nib the activities of these groups in the bud.
“Stakeholder consultations are ongoing and the results will feed into a Bill that will eventually be passed into law by Parliament,” Mr Bagbin said.
Reacting, the activist said: “I am a happy man. I am relieved. I am certain the law that would be passed will criminalize all forms of LGBTQI+ activities. That is the way to go.”
