Parliament has today, Friday, July 30, 2021, approved Kissi Agyebeng for Special Prosecutor.
The decision to approve him was unanimous.
He was approved after a report of Parliament’s Appointment Committee recommended the same.
“The committee has duly recommended the nomination of the President for the appointment of the Special Prosecutor in line with the Section 13 (3) and (8) of the Special Prosecutor Act 2017 and the standing orders of parliament and recommends the nominee Mr Kissi Agyebeng to the House for approval,” Mr. Frank A. Dompreh said.
Meanwhile, Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu has stated he was impressed with the lawyer’s knowledge of the law but said it was not enough in dealing with corruption and economic crime.
He reminded him of his pledge to criminalize unexplained wealth.
Haruna Iddrisu stated that Mr. Agyabeng must live by the pledges he gave the Committee and work to reduce incidents of corruption.
He further reminded him of his pledge to avoid possible conflict between the Office of Special Prosecutor and the Attorney-General.
He advised him to work and serve Ghana and not any political party.
He asked him to demonstrate political neutrality, political independence, and political will to make corruption a high-risk activity.
