The Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong is a coward for evading an invitation to appear before the Privileges Committee of Parliament, Tamale North MP, Alhassan Suhuyini has declared.
Kennedy Agyapong, who is being probed over inciting comments against journalist Erastus Asare Donkor failed to appear.
Reports indicate that the firebrand MP is out of the country.
“I think it amounts to an act of cowardice, we have all known about this case for some time now, and looking at the bravery he shows, one would have thought that he will be eager to make himself available for the committee to serve him and for this matter to be dealt with and decided upon by the committee…so I find it quite disappointing that his bravery is only exhibited around that comfort zone around Madina.”
Mr. Suhuyihi dragged the Assin Central MP before the committee describing his behaviour as uncouth.
Mr. Agyapong had allegedly called for the beating of Erastus Asare Donkor.
He also threatened in a live telecast that if he (Honourable Agyapong) “were the president of Ghana, he would have ensured that Erastus Asare Donkor is beaten mercilessly”.
Mr. Suhuyini who moved the motion for the MP to be probed said the Assin Central MP’s recent actions damaged the reputation of Parliament, hence, must be penalised.
“I am for some level of punishment, especially when he (Kennedy Agyapong) is not a first time offender. He is one who has been referred to the Committee before. The Committee did, indeed find him guilty, and recommended some sanctions, out of which the house had to decide on which sanction to apply.”
