The Police Service has disclosed that the three suspected robbers who were shot and killed in a shot out at Shiashie bus stop were on Police wanted list.
A statement issued by the Police identified the three suspected robbers as Akka Christian Roberts, Alhassan, and Alhaji.
It described them as notorious robbers who have been on their wanted list for some time now.
“Three notorious armed robbers; Akka Christian Roberts, Alhassan, and Alhaji who have been on the Police wanted list have been shot dead by the Police in a shootout at Opeibea with two other accomplices arrested.”
Three suspected armed robbers on Monday, August 9, 2021, allegedly engaged Police in a gunfight at Shiashie in the Greater Accra Region.
The robbers trailed a businessman who had come out of a bank at the Kotoka International Airport, accosted him, and attempted to steal his cash.
A team of plain-clothed and uniformed men foiled the alleged robbery.
But the robbers engaged them in a gun battle leading to the death of three of the suspected robbers.
According to the Police, the suspected robbers opened fire on the Police who in turn fired back.
“The Police retrieved a pistol with rounds of ammunition, money, a phone, and other items after the gunfight,” the Police PRO ACP Kwasi Ofori said.
“Pistols were discovered on them (the robbers) fully loaded meant to cause harm death and injury. As I speak to you we have taken them to the Police morgue for preservation awaiting autopsy and report,” he said.
He added that: “Police will like to warn that we are determined to get rid of street robberies, bank robberies, residential robberies as well as highway robberies throughout the country. Those involved better stop or that they will face the full wrath of the Police.”
