Public Relations Officer for the Poultry Farmers Association Mr. Isaac Kwame Essiaw has described the shortage of poultry feed under this administration as the worst in the past ten years.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he said although the country suffers a shortage of poultry feed, the current shortage is the worst they have suffered in the last ten years.
He told host Kwabena Agyapong that this is a major crisis poultry Farmers have faced despite the existence of the planting for food and jobs.
He admitted we had maize in abundance, but the challenge we suffered was that we could not manage the excesses well.
The weather pattern he lamented did not also help Ghanaian farmers adding, there is a severe shortage of maize, and no amount of propaganda can change that fact.
He indicated that our neighbouring countries, such as Burkina Faso came to Ghana to cart the maize to their country.
He said as players in the industry, we have to speak the truth and find solutions instead of peddling lies.
The crisis he added could spell doom for Ghana and lead to job losses and financial crises.
According to him, the situation was severe and affecting farmers and the earlier we address the issue, the better.
The cost of production he disclosed has tripled with the price of a ton of feed increasing to over Ghc3,000, compared to Ghc1,000 in December 2020.
In his view, this is an unprecedented crisis we must all address to save the poultry industry.
