The presidential special advisor on health Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare has asked the media to support the government’s campaign for people to vaccinate against the Covid-19 outbreak.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he said the media must continue to promote the vaccination exercise to ensure persons above 18 years and eligible to take the COVID-19 jab to do so.
He said the government was committed to ensuring that by December 31, 2021, the target of vaccinating 20 million Ghanaians would be achieved.
Ghana took delivery of 177,600 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to vaccinate people who are yet to receive a COVID-19 jab.
The doses form part of the first batch of the Africa Union’s African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) initiative delivered to Ghana.
The vaccine shots are to be given out in 11 districts; seven in the Greater Accra Region and four in the Greater Kumasi metro, targeting persons at higher risk.
Reacting, Dr. Nsiah-Asare said Ghana will soon receive more vaccines, and Ghanaians who have not been vaccinated must avail themselves for the exercise.
He explained that the vaccination would help minimize the spread and promote herd immunity.
He stressed that the media must continue to shine the light on the importance of the vaccination to help diffuse all the negative campaigns against the vaccination exercise.
He further encouraged Ghanaians to strictly adhere to safety protocols.
