The circuit Supervisor in charge of Health at the Okaikoi Sub-metro explained that Dr. Stella Gyamfi has told Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that they expect a total of 6,000 eligible persons are to receive the Johnson and John vaccines.
Speaking to Wallace Worlanyo, she said so far the exercise has gone smoothly in the sub-metro and the team are expecting that some 6,000 persons would be vaccinated by August 18, 2021.
Dr. Gyemfi explained that the circuit deployed 1,600 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccines on Monday, August 16, 2021, and are optimistic by end of day one, the 1,600 would be given out.
She further explained that the Johnsons and Johnson vaccines are reserved for those who have not been given any of the shots given in the first and second phases of the vaccination exercise.
Seven districts in the Greater Accra Region are participating in the exercise.
The seven areas in the capital include the Accra metro, Adentan, Tema, Okaikwei, Kpone, Ablekuma and the Ga South districts.
Ghana took delivery of 177,600 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to vaccinate people who are yet to receive a COVID-19 jab.
The vaccine is the first batch of the Africa Union’s African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) initiative delivered to Ghana.
The vaccine shots are to be given out in 11 districts; seven in the Greater Accra Region and four in the Greater Kumasi metro, targeting persons at higher risk.
Already, the administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine has begun in the Ashanti Region.
