Private legal practitioner lawyer Techie Antiedu has expressed shock at the confession of one of the suspects in the murder of a ten-year-old boy in Kasoa that they had killed a pregnant woman for ritual purposes.
A juvenile murder suspect committed to stand trial at the High Court for the alleged murder of a 10-year-old boy at Kasoa in the Central region has confessed to committing another murder previously unheard of since his arrest and a suspected accomplice.
The 15-year-old boy (name withheld) told the Court presided over by Ms Rosemond Agyiri Duodoo that the murder of the 10-year-old boy was not their first.
He disclosed they had in the past killed a pregnant woman for ritual purposes.
His alleged accomplice, Nicholas Kwame Kani, however, denied being party to any murder, but the two were committed to stand trial after they had been charged with conspiracy and murder of Ishmael Mensah Abdallah.
Reacting to this on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, Lawyer Antiedu said the confession is shocking and grieving.
The lawyer described the issue as sad and one that calls for urgent action by the state to ensure we give our minors better training and upbringing.
Lawyer Antiedu explained that the accused person who is 18-years- if found guilty could be sentenced to death, hence in such cases, they have to be proven beyond all reasonable doubt to be guilty.
He said the case heard at the Magistrate Court was a preliminary hearing (committal proceedings) to determine whether the evidence or charges against them were enough for trial.
Meanwhile, he has noted that the juvenile in the case would spend two years in a borstal home where the one who is 18-years would be committed to the death sentence if found guilty.
The Kaneshie District Court committed the two teenagers to stand murder trial at the High Court.
This was after the prosecution led by Nana Adoma Osei filed a new Bill of Indictment (BI) in the court on Monday.
Felix Nyarko and Nicholas Kwame Kani were arrested for over alleged murder at Kasoa Lamptey Mills in the Awutu Senya East Municipality in the Central Region on April 3, this year.
