A former minister of health under the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alexander Percival Segbefia, has doubted the ability of the government to fund its ambitious agenda 111 projects.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he stated that the idea of a one district one hospital is not a new policy because it was something that was started by Rawlings when he was president.
He was reacting to a publication that quoted him as saying that the agenda 111 policy by the NPP was something they stole from the NDC and repackaged it.
But clarifying, the former health minister said the one district one hospital had been a concept that has existed since the era of late Rawling.
It was under this initiative that saw former and late President Atta-Mills build five district hospitals in Western and town in the Central Region.
He disclosed that when he was appointed a health minister, one of the concepts he worked on was to ensure that every district gets a hospital.
The approach he explained could be different from that of the NPP, but the concept is not new.
The other issue he raised was about the financing of the projects, adding, the government has failed to state clearly where the money from the projects would be taken from.
Mr. Segbefia added that in the current financial position we find ourselves in, the money for the projects must be stated clearly.
”All I am saying is that the concept of having a hospital in every district is not new. In our last manifesto, we had even said that there should be a regional hospital in each region because it is important we have teaching hospitals in each region to encourage medical students to go to the regions to specialize,” he added.
