The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has admonished residents in communities that would be affected by the Bagre dam spillage to cooperate with the team that would work on the spillage.
SONABEL, the agency that manages the Bagre and Kompienga dams in Burkina Faso, has announced that the annual spillage of the dams would take place from Friday, August 27 to Monday, August 30, this year.
NADMO, in the statement, said it had decided to begin opening the valves of the dams in the coming days due to the rapid rate of rise in the water levels.
It advised the residents in the affected areas to move to higher grounds for safety.
The level of the Kompienga Dam as of Tuesday, August 24, 2021, was 174.10 metres.
The filling rate is 49.47% against 42.81% in the same period of 2020.
The upstream level of the Bagre Dam has also risen to 234.09 metres, with the rate of rise at 89.83% as against 99.87% in the same period of 2020.
