The Northern Regional Veterinary Officer, Dr. Evans Nso-Ayamdo, has given a strong indication that the region is on high alert to deal with an influx of bird flu in the region.
He noted that his outfit had intensified farmer engagements and surveillance on the disease while ensuring the safety of birds and eggs that gets into the region.
He disclosed that the region had not recorded any case yet, but they are on high alert.
He explained that they are taking precautionary measures to contain any outbreak.
He said the disease is moving from region to region through the movement of eggs, feed and poultry.
The key stakeholders he noted are mainly the poultry farmers and eggs sellers associations in the region.
The disease, he said, hasn’t hit the Brong Ahafo Region, which is the main source of eggs for the Northern Region.
”We are taking all the precautionary measures such that our farmers and egg sellers do not procure from sources hit with the disease,” he added.
He said the region is prepared- because technically, they have the personnel to manage an outbreak.
The expectation is that the region is not anticipating an outbreak but should record cases, we are prepared to manage them.
