A lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Ghana (KNUST), Owusu Nyarko Boateng, has encouraged Ghanaians to take an active part in the sim re-registration exercise set to start in October this year.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the lecturer averred that the exercise has enormous benefits.
He explained that the re-registration exercise would help Ghana get a strong database, give it a strong and secured system.
The exercise, he further argued, would help to transform our economy and boost investor confidence.
To him, investors would trust in our system because they also believe in technology which we have recently adopted in leveraging activities to reduce the influence of humans.
The lecturer said Ghanaians must be encouraged to participate in the exercise, so all sim users must be captured.
He said the decision to use only the National Identification card for the re-registration exercise is also apt since it would help eliminate fraudsters and criminals.
The exercise would also prevent sim box fraud and so, let us all participate because we stand to benefit from the exercise, he stressed.
The Minister of Communications and Digitisation Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Erkuful, over the weekend, stated that only the National Identity Card (Ghana Card) issued to an individual would be used for re-registration of SIM cards.
In the case of foreigners staying in Ghana for less than 90 days, a valid passport or other travel document is required.
