Security analyst Adib Saani has described the do-or-die affair comments made by former President John Dramani Mahama in connection to the 2024 general elections as reckless, irresponsible, and dangerous.
He explained that the comments are unfortunate statements that have no place in our body politics because it is wrong and must be condemned by all reasonable persons.
He posited that the statement tends to lead to violence because the grassroots supporters would see the elections as one that must be won at all cost.
He, therefore, wants Mr. Mahama to apologize for the reckless comments.
The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 presidential election Mr. Mahama has stated that the party has learnt its lessons from the 2020 polls.
Speaking on Akina Radio as part of his ‘Thank You Tour’ of the Bono Region, he said: ”we all recognize that President Akufo-Addo is the recognized leader of Ghana. We have accepted the Supreme Court judgment.
But whatever that happens, you have to learn your lessons. We have learnt our lessons with elections 2020. The 2024 elections would be won or lost at the polling stations. It would be a do or die affair at the polling stations,” he added.
He said his do-or-die affair comments are not the same as Nana Addo’s all ‘die be die’ mantra.
Adib Saani reacting to the comments on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm said the comments can send wrong signals.
He said the comments represent desperation, lawlessness, violence, and violating the law.
“The comments will send very dangerous signals and the former leader must apologize.”
The analyst indicated that we cannot differentiate the comments from that of President Akufo-Addo’s ‘all die be die’ mantra.
To him, our politicians must stay away from such reckless comments because they are dangerous to the peace, stability, and democracy of the state.
“In short, the comments by Mahama were unfortunate and he must apologize. Politicians must be responsible and act by our laws and not create unnecessary tensions. They have a responsibility to respect the laws of Ghana. They have followers and must be guided by that because their comments can resonate with people who are inspired by them. His comments have no place in our politics. The comments were wrong and must be criticized as such, he told host Kwabena Agyapong.
