The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has expressed satisfaction over the progress of work on the construction of the Integrated Recycling Compost Plant (IRCOP) project in the Volta Region.
She made the remarks after she paid a working visit to the Volta Region to inspect ongoing works on the Integrated and Recycling Plant (IRECOP) project in Ho. Work on the project is steadily progressing.
The Minister said one of the major private sector-led interventions to the disposal challenge is the introduction of these recycling and compost plants across the country.
The plants have the ability to recover waste (solid as well as Medical waste) materials that would have been landfilled and turned into raw materials for industry.
The Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant has an 80% waste recovery rate and has the capacity to handle 800 tons of solid waste on a sixteen (16) hour shift. The plant is designed to additionally process 200 tons of compost per day.
After completion, the project would serve as one of the subsidiaries of the Environment and Sanitation Cluster of the Jospong Group of Companies.
It would be responsible for receiving and recycling, and composting the waste generated in the Volta Region.
The Volta Regional Minister, Yao Archibald Letsa who was the one who represented the President to cut the sod for the construction of the project indicated that he will help to ensure the project is completed by the end of the year.
The Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies, who is the contractor of the project, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, on his part, said the facility would create 80 direct and 150 indirect jobs in the region.
