Ghana’s President and Chairperson of the Authority of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), President Akufo-Addo, has reiterated that the coup in Guinea is condemnable.
He said the detention and ousting of President Alpha Conde was unfortunate, and the special forces who detained him must release him.
He said this in his opening remarks at the ongoing emergency summit of ECOWAS.
President Akufo-Addo noted a delegation had gone to Guinea to familiarize themselves with the situation, and their report would form the basis for deliberations at the summit.
ECOWAS, he said, organised the summit to look at emergency solutions towards the political instability in Mali and Guinea.
The summit he disclosed will also receive the situational report from the mediator of the Malian Crisis on developments in Mali.
He said ECOWAS is required to make informed decisions on these matters.
He appealed to his colleague heads of state to help formulate lasting solutions to the crisis.
According to him, he was hopeful ECOWAS, will rise to the occasion.
