Two anti-galamsey campaigners Peter Tawiah and Steve Quaicoe have raised concerns over galamsey activities which they say it is still ongoing.
According to them, although the government claims to have put in efforts to stop galamsey, they can state categorically that illegal mining is still ongoing in Ghana.
The two were of the view that the era of Prof. Frimpong Boateng in dealing with galamsey was far superior to what we are witnessing today.
Appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the two campaigners expressed worry over why the use of drones in dealing with galamsey has stopped.
They told host Kwabena Agyapong that illegal miners especially in Tarkwa are still engaging in illegal mining.
They alleged that these illegal miners are allegedly mining under the community mining policy.
He said although only one community mining initiative has been launched by the president, there are over ten illegal mining firms destroying water bodies in the area.
The two insisted that the government must take steps in resolving the crisis because the activities of illegal miners is threatening the livelihoods of residents in the affected areas.
They asked the current Minister Mr. Samuel Jinapor to take steps in resolving the matter.
