Mr. Ishmael Ashitey, an aspiring national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has opined that anyone interested in contesting the presidential primaries should be allowed to contest if they qualify.
He explained that as a party that believes in democracy, all interested persons must be granted the opportunity to contest.
He was reacting to suggestions that the NPP, must allow Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to be acclaimed as the presidential candidate.
He said as a party that believes in democracy, everyone who is interested in the slot and qualified must be allowed to contest.
He said President Akufo-Addo for several times contested the primaries before he got the opportunity to be elected as a president.
”We don’t do our things like that. You have to go through an election and allow people to contest. I don’t we have to give the slot to anyone on a silver platter,” he added.
Me. Ashietey said as someone interested in the national chairmanship position, he would not support those who are making claims that the slot for the presidential candidate should be handed over to any candidate on a silver platter.
He encouraged people to compete so the best person comes out as a victor.
