Former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko has admonished the leadership of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to impose a presidential candidate on the party as it prepares to elect a flagbearer to lead it into the 2024 elections.
The man who has declared his interest in contesting g the presidential primaries of the party believes that the party has never accepted imposition because it is a democratic party.
To him, the imposition of candidates on the party is against the DNA of the elephant family.
Speaking to JoyNews, the aspiring presidential candidate asked NPP to keep to the tradition of allowing delegates to elect a candidate of their choice.
“You can go back to be beginning at our tradition, JB Danquah had to contest and he almost lost. Busia had to contest,” he said
“Victor Owusu was contested by the likes of J.H Mensah and Dr. Kwame Sarfo Adu. Prof Adu Boahene was contested by the likes Kodua, Kufour and all of that. Kufour was contested famously by Akufo Addo and Akufo Addo was also contested by Alan Kyeremanteng.”
He said, “the process must be respected to throw up the leader of the party”.
