The National Identification Authority (NIA) has selected some 34 registration centres nationwide to help persons without the Ghana card register for it.
The centres in 10 regions of Ghana and persons without the Ghana card would get it for free.
The Ghana Card was issued without any charges during the mass registration last year because the ordinary Ghanaian could not afford it.
Although registration for new applicants is free, persons who prefer premium services would have to go to the NIA headquarters.
The demand for the Ghana card has shot up following the directive that only the card would be used for the sim card re-registration exercise.
Long queues have characterized the exercise, but the Head of Department of Corporate Affairs at the National Identification Authority (NIA) Abdul-Ganiyu has disclosed that the long queues recorded at the various Ghana Card registration centres will ease by the end of October.
He explained that the long queues have been caused by the quest to secure the Ghana Card for use as a requirement for the reregistration of SIM cards.
