Damba festival taken to court

October 20, 2021

Two chiefs in Tamale have appeared before a Tamale magistrate court as part of an effort to ensure an incident-free Damba Festival.

This comes after the Northern Regional Police Command has hauled the two rival chiefs in Tamale before a Magistrate court to explain why they should not be restricted from celebrating this year’s Damba Festival following heightened tension between the two.

Intelligence picked up by the police indicated that followers of the Dakpemah, Naa Fuseini Bawa and Nyeb Buglana, were planning to attack each other during the week-long celebrations, and without just a street separating the palaces of the chiefs, the law enforcement agency needed to act.

Some residents of Tamale have lauded the police for being proactive in dealing with the situation which tends destroying lives and properties.

Meanwhile, the Northern Regional crime officer, Bernard Baba Ananga has assured the public of safety before, during, and after the celebration.

This year’s Damba festival is scheduled for the 23rd of October 2021.
