Private legal practitioner lawyer David Adu Tutu Jr. has described the arrest of Shatta Wale, the prophet who prophesied about his death, and two others as a step in the right direction.
He, however, explained that the fact that they have been arrested does not make them guilty.
The lawyer speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm posited that the fact someone has been arrested does not pronounce guilt.
He said the Police would investigate and find reasons to prosecute the matter.
He indicated that Ghanaians must not jump to conclusions until the matter has been dealt with as by law established.
The lawyer told host Kwabena Agyapong that by section 208 of our criminal code, Shatta Wale could face up to three years in jail if he is unable to verify and spread a false statement, rumor, or report that can cause fear and panic.
He said the offence(s) the musician has been slapped with is a misdemeanor and the maximum jail term is three years or a fine or both.
“What Shatta Wale has done is defined as a misdemeanor in the Criminal Code. If he is found liable, he could get between six months to three years. He could also be fined or get both a fine and a jail term,” he added.
