Nana Addo will dare not speak to Okyenhene as he did to the Aflao Chief-Kwakye Ofosu

October 22, 2021

A former deputy Information Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu has slammed President Akufo-Addo for asking the Chief of Aflao to continue the E-Block project if he was frustrated.

The former deputy minister opined that the remarks by the President were unfortunate and indefensible.

President Akufo-Addo took a swipe at the Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, Torgbui Fiti Amenya V for giving his government an ultimatum to complete the abandoned E-Block project in his area.

The number one gentleman of the land said the Chief had no authority to give his Minister of Education an ultimatum to complete the project.

The Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area, Torgbui Fiti Amenya V had expressed discontent over the government’s inability to complete and operationalize the Aflao Community Day Senior High.

He said, “Aflao is the only urban community in Ghana without a senior high school but day-in-day-out my friends in the media only carry bad stories about Aflao. They’ll not come and comb the area and see why these people are always thieves, smugglers, and why we are always going to Togo. These are researches the media and government have to do.”

“After the BECE, our children now begin to struggle for space in schools elsewhere and so this thick population in most cases has no place to go,” he added.

“I had to push former President Mahama to bring that project here. I had to be running from here to Accra, begging, should we beg for education. If we have to beg for education before our people have to go to school then I don’t know what democracy means but now, look at the structure standing over there, 90% complete. Now in the era of the NPP, we have the Free SHS but my people are not benefiting because the school is not here.”

He, therefore, demanded from the Education Ministry to take steps to complete the project saying, “Your coming here is redemption to the suffering people of Aflao. Carry this message to the Minister of Education that come February, I want this school to be opened.”

But reacting to the issue, President Akufo-Addo questioned the authority through which the Chief gave the ultimatum.

”Is he [The Chief] the one giving the Minister ultimatum?”

He said this on Peace Fm in an interview on Thursday, October 21, 2021.

When the host drew attention that the Chief could be frustrated that his several appeals to have the project completed proved futile, the President responded by saying ”then he [Chief] should go and complete the project”.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu reacting to the comments by the President said that was a low Presidential indiscretion.

To him, the President would not have spoken to the Okyenhene as he did to the Aflao Chief.

“President Akufo-Addo’s gratuitous attack on the Chief of Aflao is not defensible. It marks a new low in Presidential indiscretion.

I maintain that he would never talk to his own Chief, the Okyehene, in that manner, no matter what he says.

Then again, how long was it going to take for the artifice built around him for electoral purposes to wane and give way to his true self?”
