The Queen Mother of Wassa Anyinabrem in the Wassa East district of Western Region Nana Adjoa Sarah (I), has lamented the rate of criminal activities in the area.
The traditional leader said the high rate of crime such as stealing, smoking, gambling fighting, and stabbing have not stopped because there are no police personnel in the community.
She disclosed that a police station completed in the area had been abandoned for the past two years.
The station she alleged is now a breeding ground for rodents and reptiles.
Nana Adjoa Sarah (I) added that the nearest police station is Daboase police station which is about 20km from Wassa Anyinabrem, a distance roo far to go.
The residents, she said, are also afraid of travelling that long-distance due to the rate of crime in the area.
She has, therefore, appealed to the Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, to deploy police personnel to the area to maintain law and order.
The assemblywoman for the area, Madam Vida Damoah recounted the numerous steps she had advanced to ensure the utilization of the abandoned police station, but all proved futile, she said.
Some of the residents of Wassa Anyinabrem also expressed their displeasure about the situation.
According to them, they are currently living in fear for their lives.
