The Ghana Physician Assistants Association of Ghana have raised some concerns about their conditions of service.
The association among other things raised concerns over their career advancement.
According to them, since this initiative was introduced some sixty tears ago, there has not been any move to initiate policy changes which could have led to a clear career path doe their members.
The Association also raised concerns over what they described as a high level of physician assistant unemployment as several health centres exist without PAs when there are highly qualified physician assistants without employment.
They have further complained of poor treatment of physician assistants by the medical and dental council.
The issues raised were contained in a communique issued by the Association at the annual conference held last month.
In their resolutions, the Association asked the Ministry of Health to as a matter of urgency initiate processes leading t a broader stakeholder engagement within six months on the mounting of speciality programs for practising assistants.
”The Ministry of Health should within 6months direct its implementing agencies such as the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) to officially appoint Physician Assistants as Sub-District Heads. Commensurate remunerations should be attached to such position.
This should not be delayed any further than the timeline stated. The sub-district system has been neglected for far too long.”
The Association also gave the government two months ultimatum to employ some 800 physician assistants who are home with jobs
