An executive member of the Economic Fighters League (EFL), Fighter Nii Aryee, has opined that the 2022 budget statement in its current form is nothing but one that would bring severe hardship on Ghanaians.
He, therefore, want the budget to be dropped because it has nothing to improve the lives of Ghanaians.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he said the budget does not capture any hope or aspirations of the Ghanaians people.
He said Ghanaians hoped that a budget christened ‘Agyenkwa budget’ would provide relief, but it has rather introduced new taxes to add and compound the already ”huge hardship” Ghanaians had to put up with.
He described the government as insensitive and one that does not recognize the hardship Ghanaians were going through.
He told host Kwabena Agyapong that there was no justification for the insensitivity of the government and its appetite for introducing nuisance taxes.
To him, there was nothing substantial to show for the taxes our leaders had collected from Ghanaians.
”It is the issue of trust. We don’t trust this administration and any other administration for that matter. What exactly are they using our taxes for? It is very difficult for them to convince Ghanaians that they want to use these taxes for something substantial.”
He recounted how Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia pledged to Ghanaians to move Ghana away from taxation and to production, but they have done otherwise.
Fighter Nii Aryee said Ghana lost Ghc12 billion through corruption according to the Auditor General’s report, and it was our hope the NPP would block the loopholes and recover these monies, but they are not interested in that.
Meanwhile, he has advised the government to review the tax holidays granted foreign businesses since they are far more than the taxes Ghanaians pay.
