The National Identification Authority (NIA) has asked Ghanaians who were yet to register for the Ghana card to exercise restraint at the various registration centres.
According to the NIA, there was no need for them to sleep at the various registration centres just to register for their Ghana card.
The Head of Corporate Affairs at the NIA, Abudu Abdul Ganiu, says they are currently working with 275 registration centres nationwide, and Ghanaians who were yet to register for their cards could visit the centres for registration.
There have been several media reports of some desperate and frustrated individuals desirous of obtaining the Ghana card sleeping at the registration centres.
The registrants said they want to get the card because it has become the sole source of identification card required for the re-registration of SIM cards in the country.
But Mr. Abudu Abdul Ganiu has admonished Ghanaians to remain calm because the registration will continue to register new persons and also replace cards or those who have had their names changed to have new Ghana cards.
He was speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm.
”It is needless for anyone to sleep at a registration centre because they want to register for a card. We want the media to report on this to discourage those doing that to stop. It is troubling for people to sleep at the registration centres, and we want them to stop. They would all register and get their cards,” he added.
He also disclosed the NIA would work with the NCA to extend the deadline for the sim card re-registration exercise if it is discovered that there were more Ghanaians yet to register or the card.
