A group calling itself Coalition of Krobo youth has hinted at plans to deploy 1000 youth from both Yilo and Lower Manya Krobo Municipalities to provide 24-hour security to the staff of Electricity Company of Ghana so the company could resume operations in the area.
The Coalition gave the assurance at a press conference today, Thursday, December 9, 2021.
It was the view of the group that the Police and the National Intelligence Burea (NIB) – have failed to arrest the miscreants threatening ECG officials and stoking conflict between the residents and the power distributor.
ECG moved its operations in the area after they were threatened by angry residents in the area.
The power supply has been cut to Somanya and Odumase.
ECG attributed the outage to illegal connections by unscrupulous people on their transformers increasing the load.
The situation has affected some businesses in the area.
They have pleaded with ECG to restore power and resume operations.
Speaking during a media briefing by the Coalition, the convener Frederick Narh Okley appealed to ECG to restore power to the two Municipalities whiles engagement continue.
“The deployment of generator plants to Somanya polyclinic, Atua government hospital, and St Martins hospital at Agormanya confirms suspicions that the blackout is intentional. Ladies and gentlemen, traders, secondary schools, universities , and businesses are nearing the brunt of the blackout ”
Meanwhile, ECG has promised to restore power to the communities by the close of the week.
