Captain of Ghana’s Amputee football national team, Richard Opentil has revealed that they had to breach the law by participating in the 2021 Amputee African cup to make the nation proud.
He said despite the legal tussle surrounding the organization and activities of amputee football in Ghana, they had no option other than to go on their own.
Speaking on Rainbow Sports he explained that their desire to make Ghana proud forced them to breach the law knowing the consequences.
The ‘Black Challenge’ defeated Liberia in the finals to win the ultimate after edging the likes of Egypt, Nigeria, and Angola en route to the final.
They put up a spirited performance in the final game to defeat Liberia 3-2 to become the champions of Africa.
Their participation was not sanctioned by authorities but the captain justified reasons why they had to do that.
To him, one has to break the law sometimes to achieve something positive.
He was hopeful amputee football would be given the needed support.
He said the team of nine who represented Ghana must be given the needed support to continue to make the nation proud.
