The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has threatened to embark on a strike action if their demands on accumulated bonuses are not addressed.
CETAG says it has given the government till January, 5, 2022 to resolve their demands.
National President, Prince Obeng-Hemah, indicated that the government has failed to address their concerns and for that reason, they have no other option than to strike.
According to him, CETAG and the government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on September 24, 2021, but the government has failed to fulfill their part of the bargain.
“The effective date for the implementation of the agreement was January 1, 2021, but this has not been done. We have been pushed to the wall.”
He alleged that the government was supposed to pay accumulated arrears of nine months in October, November and December, 2021.
“But government is yet to honour its promise in that regard.
“The month of October and November 2021 ended without any payment being made to the members of the Association.
“CETAG members are anxiously and patiently waiting for payment of the agreed allowances (January, 2021 to December, 2021) at the end of December, 2021, without which the Association shall activate its intended strike action”.
“The intended strike action will involve all the 46 Colleges of Education under its watch, if their concerns are not addressed by the end of December 2021”, he concluded.
