The Inspector-General of Police Dr. GFeorge Akuffo Dampare placed a GH¢50,000 bounty on the heads of the suspected armed robbers who shot and killed two police officers at Zuarungu in the Upper East Region.
The IGP stormed the area today, Thursday, December 16, 2021, following the incident to commiserate with the regional police command over the deaths of the two police officers.
The two officers –Constable Emmanuel Akowuah and Constable Mohhamed Sule– who were on night patrols were both killed by suspected armed robbers on Wednesday night.
The attackers allegedly shot at the tank of the police motorbike and partially burnt constable Mohammed Sule while constable Emmanuel Akowuah was shot in the head.
A statement issued earlier said ”Black Wednesday for the Ghana Police Service as we have lost 2 of our officers through the activities of criminals, while on patrols this night within the Zuarungu Township to safeguard life and property.
In line with our tradition, the families of these officers will be contacted and informed before we come up with details.
Meanwhile, we are appealing to members of the public who witnessed the dastardly act to be circumspect with information pertaining to the incident.”
