Gabby is more powerful than Bawumia, meeting Mahama is not a big deal-Expert

December 23, 2021

A communication expert Raymond Ablorh has disagreed with critics who say Gabby Otchere Darko was not competent and capable to have engaged with former President John Dramani Mahama.

In his view, although the critics may have genuine reasons to make such claims, he believes the most powerful persons or power brokers are not always in government.

Some persons including members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have slammed Gabby Otchere Darko for meeting with former President Mahama to discuss issues of governance with him.

According to them, he is not a member of government hence had no mandate to have engaged with Mr. Mahama.

But Mr. Raymond Ablorh has disagreed.

“Ochere Darko and Osafo Marfo are more powerful than Dr Bawumia, the Vice President and many ministers. Among the Ministers, the Agric Minister is closer to the President than many others.

If you’re conversant with activities on the corridors of power, you may understand why Gabby could be the President’s choice in this engagement. It isn’t an act of disrespect for him to meet the Former President.

What’s most important is that the President recognises the need to engage John Mahama on very important issues and seek his assistance to enhance cooperation between Government and the major opposition.”

He added: “It’s normal for supporters to get annoyed but beyond the emotions is the truth that the NDC and NPP need each other than they need the Chinese, Americans and Europeans to develop this nation.

Our forefathers failed because they did toxic politics that didn’t help them to work together. We’re failing because of same reason. The young must watch the slippery places the old fell to avoid suffering same fall.”

Well, some genuinely think that Gabby Ochere isn’t the right person to engage John Mahama on behalf of the President, because, to them, he isn’t even a member of Government.

However nice that perspective may look, methinks some of the most powerful persons aren’t in government and Gabby is one of them.

Ochere Darko and Osafo Marfo are more powerful than Dr Bawumia, the Vice President and many ministers. Among the Ministers, the Agric Minister is closer to the President than many others.

If you’re conversant with activities on the corridors of power, you may understand why Gabby could be the President’s choice in this engagement. It isn’t an act of disrespect for him to meet the Former President.

It’s normal for supporters to get annoyed but beyond the emotions is the truth that the NDC and NPP need each other than they need the Chinese, Americans and Europeans to develop this nation.

Our forefathers failed because they did toxic politics that didn’t help them to work together. We’re failing because of same reason. The young must watch the slippery places the old fell to avoid suffering same fall.

The critical situation we find ourselves in today, requires wisdom, sobriety and tact.

This is why I earlier advised that the President should stop that ancient antagonistic political communication. He must come to terms with the reality and conduct himself properly to help the co-operation he needs.

He hasn’t performed extraordinarily like he believes or want everybody to accept. Those sycophants and bootlickers decieving him must stop.

Within a very short time, he’s borrowed through the roofs thereby piling more debt than his predecessors collectively did.

He has also failed to protect the public purse as he promised. From 2017 to 2020, Auditor General’s reports shows we’ve lost about ghs34Billion to financial irregularities in officialdom.

We lost count of corruption scandals under his leadership as far back as in 2017. He promised to retrieve our stolen monies but they’re doing worse.

As I write, we don’t know what he’s done with the Environmental Excise Tax and Sanitation and Pollution Levy he’s collected from us. Nothing shows we’re paying such taxes.

He hasn’t also accounted properly for the COVID-19 fund.

Some of his appointees are very incompetent and clueless yet he’s always praising them.

His flagship programmes have mixed results and the economy isn’t resilient as he portrayed otherwise he wouldn’t be this desperate to impose this obnoxious e-levy on us. He admits citizens are suffering but he doesn’t seem to appreciate the depth of economic difficulties the people are enduring.

He should stop the self-praises and kokotii talks and face the reality with sobriety and greater sense of responsibility.

If he acknowledges the need for greater co-operation and unity of purpose then he should align his communication and deeds to that need and deliver the conscientious leadership he promised.

So far, he’s been a very poor leader who is constantly running away from responsibility. That’s the perception a lot of non-partisans have.

These are unpalatable truths that are very difficult to tell but we must be truthful to him so that he could serve us better.

Now that we know that John Mahama isn’t Ghana’s problem. Now that we’ve realised that Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia aren’t as competent and excellent as they were sold to us. Let’s encourage them to work together to actualise our collective aspirations.

Working together doesn’t mean they should impose this obnoxious e-levy on us. Working together means they shall have more avenues to generate revenue less painfully, if not painlessly.

And, let’s continue to hold them accountable.

President Ablorh.
