The Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has revealed that the government has approved an amount of Gh¢ 44 million to compensate farmers affected by Bird flu in the country.
He was responding to a parliamentary question filed by Hon. Paul Apreku Twum-Barimah, MP for Dormaa East-who sought to know if the government will assist poultry farmers, affected by the recent outbreak of bird flu and the measures put in place to prevent the recurrence.
Mr. Afriyie Akoto assured the house that the exercise of payment will be carried out transparently to ensure farmers affected receive what they deserve.
“Mr speaker to mitigate the spread of bird flu in the country government has finalized an Annual Heath Bill for consideration by parliament, the passage of the bill will ensure effective regulation of livestock in the poultry industry”. he said.
He stated emphatically that the introduction of a new framework by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture would enforce the management standard in all animals farms in the county.
