Special aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, has reacted to the controversial E-Levy.
The legal practitioner believes the majority of Ghanaians are opposed to the levy because it is a nuisance tax.
According to her, it is disturbing for Ghana blessed with several resources to be desperately needing mere GH¢6.9 billion from the said E-levy to shore up its fiscal deficit.
She is also worried Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has gone “stone silent” on the levy.
“But why has the Vice President gone stone silent on the unrepentant position of his government and economic management team to impose the levy. This is someone who told us that any kind of tax, especially taxing MoMo, is wicked and will not happen under President Akufo-Addo?
Mr. VP, where is the money you saw as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana?
Where is the exchange rate you arrested?
Where is the wise economic management you promised?”

It is obvious many well-meaning Ghanaians, including supporters of the ruling party, agree that the E-Levy is an unnecessary and nuisance tax.
As some have said, it is troubling that a country blessed with many natural resources – gold, diamond, cocoa, timber, oil and arable lands – will find itself desperately needing a mere GH¢6.9 billion from the said E-levy to shore up its fiscal deficit.
But why has the Vice President gone stone silent on the unrepentant position of his government and economic management team to impose the levy. This is someone who told us that any kind of tax, especially taxing MoMo, is wicked and will not happen under President Akufo-Addo?
Mr. VP, where is the money you saw as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana?
Where is the exchange rate you arrested?
Where is the wise economic management you promised?
And, oh! like you yourself intimated, we don’t even remember who the members of your economic management team who have brought us to this sorry point are. Are you actually still in government?
Where are the concrete roads you promised?
The bank accounts for each citizen?
The $1m to each constituency each year?
Were they just empty words?
Like many Ghanaians, I am waiting with bated breath!
Acta non verba!!!
