The Member of Parliament for Manso Adubia Yaw Frimpong Addo has stated that nobody can change the will of the people in an election, and not even the ruling government can do the same if the people decided to kick them out of office in 2024.
He was responding to a question on whether he would be shocked should Ghanaians kick them out in 2024 during a discussion on recent coups in Mali and Burkina Faso and the possibility of a coup happening in Ghana.
In his response he said Ghana should not rule out the possibility of a coup ”but it should not be an option”.
The lawmaker said it would be better for citizens to wait for the full term of a president to be exhausted and an election organised to elect a new person instead of using force to oust a validly elected leader.
”When there is a coup. It does not matter whether you are NDC or NPP, whatever will happen to you will come to you. It is better to use the ballot than to use bullets. We should not entertain the coup happening in other countries to happen in Ghana.”
In responding to whether he would be shocked, should the NPP be voted out he said: ”who can change or stop the will of the people? I am a democrat that is why I am telling you that a coup should not be an option”.
He added that he would be shocked if the ”will of the people ”is for a new government to take overpower.
Mr. Frimpong Addo was, however, quick to add that the NPP has done a lot for the country, and they will surely break the 8-tear jinx.
He said despite the Covid-19 outbreak, the government had done a lot.
”We are working so hard. It would never happen that the NPP would be kicked out. We are going to work so hard. We will transform lives and put things in place,” he stated.
