Nunoo-Mensah is engaging in populism over his alleged coup in Ghana-Fmr NPP MP

February 3, 2022

Former Member of Parliament for Manhyia North constituency Collins, Owusu Amankwah, has described as a populist approach the revelation by former National Security Advisor Brigadier-General [rtd] Nunoo-Mensah that his efforts to meet with the President over a possible coup in Ghana has proved futile.

According to him, there was a better approach in dealing with this security matter instead of coming public with it.

Brigadier-General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah has disclosed that all efforts to meet with President Akufo-Addo to discuss a possibility of a coup in Ghana have proved futile.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he revealed that he and one other retired army officer had sought an audience with the President over the current coup in Burkina Faso and Mali and a possible one on Ghana.

According to him, he and one other former officer of the Ghana Armed Forces have seen some indicators that could trigger a coup in Ghana.

But all efforts to dialogue with the President have proved futile.

He warned that Ghana should prepare for what is ahead of the nation because the signs are clear on the streets.

But Collins Owusu Amankwah, in reacting, said the former security capo had other means in communicating this than to reveal it in the media.

The former legislator said: ”I have heard the comments from the former security advisor. I have him say that he wants to meet the president, but it appears he has not succeeded in doing that. His comments create doubt in the minds of the people because the President is a listening President, and his doors are always open to everyone provided you obey the protocols.

He should exercise patience. In any case, if you have a security concern, there are structures to use. We have the National Security Minister and we have people who are in charge of defence intelligence within the military hierarchy. He can volunteer his information because there are several p[latforma available. It should take the President to volunteer this information. However, I admit that he can send the President a text and he [pPresidnet] would respond. He should disclose this in public. This kind of populism would not benefit anyone,” he added.
