A lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, Mr. Damuel Ziggah, has asserted that the strike action by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) was justified.
He said the government has not treated them with respect and is not prepared to listen.
He indicated that the government has taken to court instead of doing what was needful hence they are awaiting the outcome of the court case.
Mr. Ziggah speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm said they had consistently demanded better conditions of service and yet the government has failed to give them what they deserve.
When asked if there is any form of glory in being a lecturer, he said, ”there is not glorifying about being a lecturer n Ghana. The only glory you get is to see your student turn out as a successful personality. Anyone who would claim that lecturers are enjoying is a liar. From the scratch to the top, teachers are suffering”.
He said, ”my child is part of the students who are suffering because of UTAG’s strike. I have other friends who are lecturers who have their children as part of the students demanding the return of the lecturers. But without taking action over our poor conditions of service, they would not be resolved”.
