The First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei Owusu has insisted and directed that the petition brought by the demonstrators over the controversial E-Levy should be referred to Speaker Alban Bagbin
This was after the Minority Leader Alhaji Haruna Iddrisu had sought guidance from the him on the matter.
Alhaji Haruna Iddrisu after receiving the petition from the protestors against the levy on behalf of the Speaker of Parliament today, Thursday, February 10, 2022, sought guidance from the First Deputy Speaker on the matter.
He asked if the petition should be tabled before the house or to be referred to the Speaker.
Alhaji Iddrisu called for the guidance of the Deputy Speaker, Hon Joseph Osei Owusu to stand on order 76 of the standing orders to rule on the issue.
He explained that the House needed to address the petition and the contents therein since Ghanaians were following the issue keenly.
Also, the Majority Chief Whip, Mr. Frank Annoh-Dompreh expressed shock as the leaders of the demonstration were from the national executives of the NDC.
According to him, he was surprised the petition was presented by the national leadership of the NDC.
However, the Deputy Speaker, Hon Joseph Osei Owusu rule that the letter should be handed over to Speaker for directions since it was addressed to him.
He said he had looked at the repetition and it was addressed to the Speaker therefore it was appropriate for the Speaker to receive it.
