We’re prepared to die in Parl over E-Levy-Sam George

February 10, 2022

The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Sam Nartey George has slammed the governing New Patriotic Party and its officials, especially the Majority Leader of Parliament Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

Addressing protestors at the ‘Yentua’ demonstration on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the legislator posited that the President is like a king who has refused to listen to his people and does things against their wish.

He said ”we told President Akufo-Ado and his Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Kyedi-Mensah-Bosu that we do not want the E-Levy but they failed to listen to us. They went ahead to organize a party and cut an E-Levy cake. When Ghanaians expressed their displeasure, they are now blaming the NDC. I am challenging them to mention the name of the NDC person who brought the cake”.

The outspoken MP said Ghanaians are against the levy, and as a responsible government, they have to scrap it.

He also told the gathering that the 137 Minority MPs will continue to resist the E-Levy even if that will cause their death.

”We will die in that chamber. We will continue to oppose the E-Levy. We are those who killed the E-Levy,” he said.

He stated that the majority of Ghanaians are against the ”senseless and heartless levy” and that is why they joined the demonstration.

He said the government was not prepared to cut expenditure but rather interested in imposing more hardship on Ghanaians.
