A 22-year-old man, Kojo Ampong, has escaped a near-death situation at ‘Wee Ghetto’ a suburb at Enyan Denkyira of the Central Region.
The victim who was alleged to have stolen a phone (yam phone) was reportedly set ablaze by his attackers.
He has suffered several burns on his body and has denied stealing the phone as alleged by his attackers.
He was first tied to a plantain tree, beaten before his attackers set him ablaze.
He, however, survived the incident and now nursing his burns.
Narrating his ordeal, the young man said he did not steal the phone.
According to him, the attackers first threatened to set him ablaze before they toed him to the maintain tree.
He said when he asked why they were doing that to him, they asked him to shut up.
Kojo Ampong said he was in his house when three people came to him that he was wanted by one of his friends called Mfantse only for him to be set ablaze.
He further alleged that he was caned over 150 lashes before they set him ablaze.
Meanwhile, the mother of the victim, Emaa also said, her son collapsed just after he was released by the suspects and he was rushed to the Ajumako government hospital for treatment.
She has appealed to the Inspector General of Police to take an immediate action and arrest the suspects who are currently on the run.
On his part, the Assembly for Denkyira North Hon. Henry Okyire also called for the police to take an immediate action and arrest the suspects.
He said though the case has been reported to the Ajumako Police, no arrest has been made.
He said, this is not the first time the suspect has set someone ablaze.
