The Adansi Asokwa Health Directorate has blamed operators of Pragya and Aboboyaa in the area for the increasing rate of teenage pregnancy.
The Directorate is worried that if the situation was contained, it would deprive several girls of access to quality education and better opportunities for the future.
The Director of Health Service David Kunta, who disclosed this said the directorate recorded 336 cases of teenage pregnancy.
Aside from the figure, 16 pregnant women tested positive for HIV.
He described the situation as worrying and called for efforts to address it.
He said: ”teenage pregnancy topped our chart. We recorded 336 cases of teenage pregnancy. The issue is a troubling one and we are doing our best to address it. We have encouraged the girls to prioritize their school and abstain from sex.
We have also identified a trend that is also affecting our efforts to address the issue. The majority of operators of Pragya and Aboboyaa are the ones responsible for these pregnancies.”
