Adwoa Safo should have resigned after her decision to sack School feeding coordinator was reversed-Analyst

February 22, 2022

A political analyst, Michael Ebo Amoah, has opined that Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister Sarah Adwoa Safo, should have resigned from her job after her directive to sack the national co-ordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme was reversed.

The political analyst and lecturer said if the Minister was principled, she should have resigned from her job.

He was responding to a question on whether that could have contributed to her long absence from parliament and her job at the ministry.

Adwoa Safo, was asked to reverse her decision to sack the national co-ordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme.

Adwoa Safo terminated Gertrude Quashigah’s appointment on Tuesday 18 May 2021.

Quashigah was ordered to hand over any official documents relating to the School Feeding Programme in her custody to the chief director of the Gender Ministry.

“You will be paid one month’s salary in lieu of notice as stipulated in your contract agreement,” said the letter from Safo notifying Quashigah of the termination of her employment.

But in a new letter, dated Thursday 20 May 2021, the Gender and Social Protection Minister said the earlier communication was the product of an administrative error.

“This is to inform you of my decision to withdraw my earlier letter … I wish to state that my earlier letter was as a result of administrative error,” the letter says.

Reacting to this issue, Mr. Michael Ebo Amoah noted the decision by the minister to sack the coordinator should have been affirmed.

But since it was not done, the minister should have resigned.

He told host Kwabena Agyapong on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that, the saga was embarrassing and the sacked coordinator used her influence to resolve the matter and that created some level of political tension between her and the minister.

He insisted the minister should have resigned after the decision was reversed.
