The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been advised to punish all individuals found culpable in hoarding forms meant for aspirants who had expressed interest in contesting in the polling station election across the various polling stations nationwide.
The sale of the forms has been characterized by violence, attacks and vandalism by some aggrieved party supporters in some polling stations across the country.
Lecturer and political analyst Michael Ebo Amoah say the NPP cannot afford to go into the 2024 general polls with a divided front hence the need to address the issues before it escalates.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he asserted that there was a lot at stake, and several individuals have interest in those elected as polling station officials for the NPP.
”What is going on is scary but not surprising. However, it is not the best. When I saw Freddie Blay address the press on the matter, I realized it was a serious issue. People have an interest in the polling station executives because the stakes are high, and they are the ones who would vote in the various internal elections.
Democracy must allow fair play. The party must punish all those hoarding the forms to serve as a deterrent to others. If this is the polling station election, you can imagine what will happen in the constituency, regional and national polls. The party must learn lessons from what is happening and address it to prevent them from recurring,” he stated.
He advised the party to play its cards well as it prepares for 2024 and the best way to do so, is for them to unite their front, allow fair play and avoid divisions that could affect their chances in the next general elections.
