Former President John Agyekum Kufour has spoken against the recorded cases of chaos and hoarding of forms in the ongoing New Patriotic Party polling station election.
The former leader said a true democrat and one who believes in the Danquah-Dombo tradition would not entertain such lawless and undemocratic activities.
He indicated that the ongoing brouhaha does not speak well of the party and what it believes in.
Mr. Kufour stated emphatically that persons hoarding the forms do not mean well for the NPP.
He appealed to the members to be guided by the ideals of the NPP and abide by them.
“If you are a democrat and identify as a member of the Danquah-Dombo tradition, then you have to understand that power does not belong to an individual. You have to allow others to contest. If you are a member of the party, you don’t prevent others from contesting. You don’t hoard the forms and prevent others from accessing it all because you want only your supporters to access the forms so they will vote for you.
When you do that, you are not a true democrat, you do not mean well for the party.”
In his view, this will paint a negative picture of the NPP and make Ghanaians see them as oppressors and undemocratic.
“When we do this, Ghanaians will despise us. Several Ghanaians do not associate with the Danquah-Busia tradition but will vote for the NPP. However, they will despise us because of what we are doing. If we behave ourselves, Ghanaians will vote for us. But if we fight each other, Ghanaians will see us as a divided party and will not vote for us,” he added.
