In their quest to outrun officials from the Forestry Commission after they were caught carting a truckload of woods, three persons have met their untimely death at Sekyere Krobo in the Wassa East District of the Western Region on Wednesday, February 23.
Rainbowradioonline.com has also gathered that ten others have sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Reports indicate that the forest around Sekyere Krobo has become a target for illegal chainsaw operators.
Given these illegal activities, the Forestry Commission has set up a task force that patrols the area to stop the illegality.
Persons who engage in illegal activity are said to do so at dawn to prevent the team from arresting them.
The deceased persons and those who were injured reportedly got information that the taskforce was on their way to the forest.
But in their quest to outrun the task force, the driver of the truck who was on a top speed run into a pothole, a situation that threw the passengers off the truck.
The packed woods reportedly fell on them.
The victims cried for help and some residents around the area came to their rescue but three of them could not survive.
The deceased persons have been identified as Ben Gasie, Yaw Drodro, and Yaw Lapo.
They are between the ages of 18 and 28 years.
The them who sustained the injuries are currently on admission at the hospital receiving treatment.
